Choosing a streaming device for IPTV is a different decision from choosing a device for Netflix or Disney+. The right choice depends on your priorities and the hardware you already own.

Amazon Firestick — the easiest starting point

The Fire TV Stick is the most popular IPTV device in the UK for practical reasons. It costs between £34 and £65 depending on the model, connects to any HDMI television, and requires no technical knowledge to set up. Tivimate is available through the Amazon App Store on recent models (Fire TV OS 7 and above) without any sideloading. On the 4K model, the premium over the HD version is worth paying if your television supports 4K — the difference in image quality during high-quality sports content is noticeable. Android TV Box — the most flexible option

An Android TV box running Android 9 or above offers full Google Play access, which means every IPTV app is available without restriction. The limitation is that Tivimate — the most feature-rich IPTV app — is not available on tvOS. For viewers who are already in the Apple ecosystem and do not want an additional device, Apple TV is a workable option; for viewers choosing a device specifically for IPTV, an Android box or Firestick will give a better experience at lower cost.

Smart TV — convenient if already owned

Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS) and Android TV Smart TVs all support IPTV apps to varying degrees. Smart IPTV is available on Samsung and LG. Tivimate is available on Android TV. The convenience of watching without an additional box is real, but built-in Smart TV platforms tend to be less responsive than a dedicated streaming stick, and software updates can occasionally break app compatibility.
